About Me

IMG_5567

My name is Bruce Critchley. I love reading, traveling, food, music and taking photographs. And I also love Mexico… Turns out they all fit together in a blog!

I went to Mexico for the first time when I was 18 years old, and have been back many times since. For years, I had the fantasy of walking across the border with a bag over my shoulder, and just seeing where the wind – or the bus system – took me. I’ve now done it several times, and have travelled from Cancun to Tijuana, from Nuevo Laredo to Tuxtla Gutiérrez and from Veracruz to Acapulco… and points in between. I hope to share some of my best experiences on this web site.

Please take a moment to look at my other blog: Bruce Critchley’s Murals and Me. http://muralsandme.com/

Originally from Canada, I am a CPA, and have held senior financial positions with Fortune 100 companies as well as smaller, entrepreneurial ventures. I currently do financial consulting, and specialize in the real estate industry. Here is my company’s business website: http://dayoneresources.com/. Heck, I’ll also give you the link to my business blog: Bruce Critchley’s CFO Thoughts. http://cfothoughts.com/ – just in case you need the services of a CFO!

In addition to my buttoned-down financial career, I have also been a film producer (google me – and no, I’m not the British professional golfer with the same name), novelist, screenwriter (still waiting to be published and/or produced) and lifeguard.

I’m hoping this website will be fun, so if you have any ideas or suggestions, I’d love to hear from you.

  1. Great blog! As a fellow Mexico aficionado you’ve got me hooked. Best regards from too far away from Mexico (Sydney) where everything Mexican is in vogue but just not the same as the real thing!

  2. Bruce – my partner Don and I just spent several lovely days with Leigh (too much rain in Puerto Vallarta, so thank goodness for the desert sun and Leigh’s hospitality – we don’t like to bail on Mexico but sunshine is at a premium for us just now). We’re going to Guanajuato, San Miguel and maybe Queretaro and Puebla before returning to D.F. in February – any pics or thoughts you have would be great. Very happy to access your blog – we’re horribly undereducated about Mexico in Canada, but our travels to Guadalajara and the Copper Canyon (and D.F., with Leigh in ’06) have whetted our appetites. We must connect thru Leigh or in L.A. at some point.

    • Great to hear from you, Brent. I haven’t been to any of your February destinations, so I’ll be very interested in your observations. Send me pictures and comments, and you can be guest bloggers… It would be great to see you next time we’re in the same vicinity.

Are you the nephew of Walter Ramsay Critchley, born 1891 in Calgary?
If so, we are trying to discover what happened to him in regards his mineral rights where the old Cochrane Ranch used to be. My client is interested in leasing.
