Grilled Octopus for Thanksgiving – Sobrinos – Mexico City
Grilled octopus with black beans. It was my Thanksgiving dinner in 2011… tastier than any turkey dinner I’ve ever had. At my favorite restaurant in Mexico, Sobrinos, in Roma.
Mexico City – La Glorieta de Insurgentes
This is the subway station I use most when I’m in Mexico City. It sits right between Roma and La Zona Rosa. Great picture from the 1970s from the Facebook page “La ciudad de México en el tiempo,” and a picture I took in November, 2009.

Poc Chuc – Mérida, Yucatan
I had to go to Mérida in Yucatan to try Poc Chuc for the first time. It’s a Yucatan specialty that I’ve never seen anywhere else. Delicious grilled pork with an almost endless list of garnishes.

Yuri – Ay Amor
A nice song by the lovely Mexican singer Yuri. She’s appearing in concert in Acapulco on July 12. I haven’t been to Acapulco for about 5 years, and I’d get on a plane right now, if I could. Great beach, delicious seafood, a fun concert… sign me up!
9th Caesar Salad Festival – Tijuana – June 30
Note: The date has been changed from June 23rd to June 30th
It’s pretty much confirmed that the Caesar Salad was created in Tijuana. For several years now, the city of Tijuana has held a celebration on Avenida Revolución to commemorate it. I never knew about it until now, but there’s a good chance you’ll see me there this year.

Diana – Zona Rosa. Mexico City
They do like their “Dianas” in Mexico… Diana, the goddess of hunting. The seem to be everywhere, but this one is in the Zona Rosa in Mexico City on a quiet morning.
